Saad Shaikh announced as latest men's volleyball recruit
The Ryerson Rams are excited to announce Saad Shaikh as the team’s latest recruit for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
Shaikh, a setter from Mississauga, Ont., has played with the Pakmen Volleyball Club for the last five seasons, claiming a national title with the team in May 2018.
The Pakmen team captain has three years’ experience with Team Ontario as well. With three national championships under his belt, Shaikh brings a great deal of experience to the Rams. The setter is also highly regarded for his composure and leadership skills.
“I love to win,” says Shaikh. “I enjoy the competition and process.”
Most recently, Shaikh was an instrumental part of the Pakmen team who won the 2018 national title. In 2017, Shaikh’s club won provincial gold and finished second in the 2017 national tournament.
Shaikh joins Pakmen and Ontario teammate Xander Ketrzynski, who committed to Ryerson earlier in May.
“We are very fortunate to have signed Saad,” says Rams head coach Matt Harris. “He brings a confident and competitive demeanor to the court that will translate well into our league. I am very excited to have Saad join the team and our Ryerson Community.”
Shaikh will be entering Ryerson’s Retail Management program in September.
“Ryerson has a winning culture,” emphasizes Shaikh, “and puts me in a situation where I can improve and be the best I can be.”
