Late game magic sees Rams remain undefeated
OTTAWA, Ont. - Last second heroics by Misel Klisara (Mississauga, Ont.) sees the Ryerson Rams men’s soccer team return home from their road trip with their undefeated streak intact. The 3-3 tie against the Carleton Raves was hard fought throughout on both sides.
Carleton opened the match with a splash as Dario Conte (Ottawa, Ont.) found the back of the net under three minutes into the match. Ryerson fought back hard and quickly, with aggressive pushes resulting in scoring chances. After a diving save by Ryerson’s Ali Ghazanfari (Stoufville, Ont.) kept the Rams in the game, Nathanial Tambakis (Toronto, Ont.) scored his first OUA goal to tie the game at 1-1 mid-first half. Just short of halftime, the Ravens would reclaim the lead off of a header by Gabriel Bitar (Ottawa, Ont.).
With a one goal differential coming out of halftime, the matched ramped up the rough-and-tumble competition seen in the first half. At the 15-minute mark, Carleton’s Christopher Malekos (Saint-Hyppolyte, Que.) extended the lead to 3-1 leaving Ryerson with 30 minutes to make a comeback.
The match got tighter nearing the end of the second half as Marko Miketic (Thornhill, Ont.) scored his fourth goal in four games to bring Ryerson within one. The final minutes of the match saw aggressive play and yellow cards shown to either side as the tone became more and more tense.
After a goalkeeper change for Carleton and Mohammad Abdallah’s (Toronto, Ont.) ejection after a second yellow, the game was far into injury time with Carleton attempting to clear for the whistle. In the final moments of injury time, the Rams made a rush for the net and capitalized on a Carleton turnover for Klisara to tie the game off the last play of the game to keep the Rams undefeated (3-0-1).
On September 9th, the Rams return to their home turf of Downsview Park to host the UOIT Ridgebacks.
