Rams set new personal bests, leave Windsor with a win

By Christian Ryan

WINDSOR, Ont. - Guard Myles Charvis (Mississauga, Ont.) put up a career high 24 points as the Ryerson Rams defeated host Windsor Lancers 81-68 at the St. Denis Centre on Friday night.

Charvis sank four of five three-point attempts in a performance that decimated his previous career high game of 15 points. He nearly doubled the offensive high of 13 points set by Windsor’s Lucas Orlita (Toronto, Ont.).

The match opened with a tight first quarter, with the Rams and Lancers trading the lead throughout and ending within five points of one another. From there, the Rams would slowly but surely grow the gap, commanding an 11 point lead by the start of the fourth quarter.

It was in the fourth that the Lancers shifted their comeback attempt into high gear, coming within five with 5:45 remaining. After a timeout, the Rams closed with Filip Vujadinovic (Burlington, Ont.) and Jean-Victor Mukama (Hamilton, Ont.) scoring 11 points between them to seal the victory.

While the teams were largely matched in rebounds, Ryerson edging Windsor 36-35, the Lancers utilized their advantage in turnovers and three-point percentage to bring the fight to the Rams. However, it was the superior field goal percentage of the Rams, 44.4% over the Lancers’ 36.5% that saw them come away with the victory.

Ryerson’s second match of the season saw a greater emphasis on their more experienced core, in contrast to the showcase of fresh talent seen in the season opener at Algoma. The victories with both configurations of the team’s lineup gives a promising forecast for the remainder of the 2017-2018 season with the Rams boasting two comfortable victories in their first matches of the season.

The Rams are headed to London, Ont. to face the Western Mustangs in Saturday night’s matchup to round out their season-opening road trip.
