Rams sweep Excalibur to remain undefeated

By Jessica Pincente

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Extending their winning streak to three games, the Ryerson Rams swept the Trent Excalibur 3-0 and currently sit as one of two undefeated teams in the OUA’s Eastern conference.

The Rams opened the first set with a 25-15 victory, asserting themselves early on in the match.

Ryerson’s junior setter, Kate McIlmoyle (London, Ont.), played her first game of the season against the Excalibur.  McIlmoyle tallied 25 assists and 6 digs through three sets.

Ryerson dominated through the second set, winning by a final score of 25-3.  The Excalibur battled hard through the third set, but ultimately came up short as the Rams took the set 25-12 and swept the game 3-0.

Two of Ryerson’s outside hitters had notable nights; Janelle Albert (Brampton, Ont.) tallied 8 kills and a 0.727 kill rate through her three sets.  Lauren Veltman (Brampton, Ont.) led the team with 11 kills and 11 points against Trent, adding to her exceptional attack totals on the year so far.

A few rookie faces took to the court for Ryerson tonight as well.  Freshman Olivia Yang (Vancouver, BC.) and Brooke Kucab (Pickering, Ont.) each played a set for the Rams, and outside hitter Molly Peters (Surrey, BC.) played two sets and tallied two service aces for the team.

Looking ahead, the Rams will head back to Toronto for their upcoming weekend matchups, taking on the York Lions at the Tait McKenzie Centre on Friday and facing the Trent Excalibur in a rematch on Sunday at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
