Rams fall to Gee-Gees in Ottawa road trip sweep
OTTAWA, Ont. - It was a tale of two halves in Ottawa, as the Ryerson Rams fell to the Ottawa Gee-Gees 81-73 after leading throughout the first half at Montpetit Hall. The loss comes a day after a close bout with the Carleton Ravens, leaving the Rams with two consecutive losses and an 8-4 record to start off 2018.
The first half of the game belonged to the Ryerson Rams. Finding scoring from throughout the roster, including a strong showing from Nathan Culbreath (Kingston, Ont.) in his second appearance with the team this season, the Rams maintained a strong three point percentage to stay ahead by double digits. Early on, this edge came from Filip Vujadinovic (Burlington, Ont.) and Roshane Roberts (Vaughn, Ont.), each scoring two of three attempts.
Trailing 41-31 going into the second half, the Gee-Gees would ramp up the offence and defence. Now, it would be the Gee-Gees dominating from the three, making 5-11, as the Rams’ accuracy wavered dramatically, 1-12. The Gee-Gees would take the lead for the first time in the 3rd quarter off of an enthusiastic dunk by Brandon Robinson (Montreal, Que.). From there, the Gee-Gees would not look back, dominating by way of a locked-in defence and a double-double performance from Sean Stoqua (Stittsville, Ont.) (15 PTS, 10 DREB).
The Ryerson Rams continue their road trip to open 2018 in Sudbury, taking on the Laurentian Voyageurs, on Friday, January 12th. They will have an opportunity to face the Ottawa Gee-Gees once more this season, this time at home as the Gee-Gees travel to Toronto and the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Friday, January 26th.
