Rams fall to Badgers for second time this season

By Ryan Bacic

TORONTO – It was an unfortunate evening for the Ryerson Rams as they lost to the Brock Badgers for the second time this season, falling 2-1 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Friday night.

Heading into this contest the Rams had become able to rely upon a greater breadth of offensive contributions from their team, as more and more players within their line-up have begun to regularly contribute their name to the score sheet on a nightly basis.

“It’s huge, obviously you have those couple of players you can count on, but it helps quite a bit when you get those other guys on the score sheet along with doing all the little things that make us better,” remarked defenseman Jared Walsh (Toronto, Ont.) following the game.

However, tonight the scoresheet would appear to be a little empty for the Rams as the scoreless first frame consisted of both teams bunkering down defensively to prevent passages beyond their blueline.

Fans in attendance would have to wait until the second frame for scoring to get under way, and it would be the Rams who would claim the honour of being the first one the scoreboard.  Nine minutes into the second period, Rams forward John Carpino (Maple, Ont.) would tally his eighth goal of the season, and fourth in the past three games, to give Ryerson the one goal advantage.

Unfortunately for the home team, the visiting Badgers would have a quick response.  Five minutes following Carpino’s goal, Brock defenseman Dexter Weber (New Dundee, Ont.) would provide the equalizer for the Badgers, tapping in his second goal of the season in the process.

Things would not get better for the Rams as they head into the third period.  In spite of their best efforts to prevent offensive mobility for the Badgers, the persistent Brock lineup would still find a way to score as forward Brandon O’Quinn (Trenton, Ont.) would provide the visiting team with their game winner with under ten minutes left to play in the game.

The Rams will be back in action on Friday, January 19 as they take on the York Lions at the Mattamy Athletic Centre for their Winter Homecoming Game.
