By Cara Gilhula

KINGSTON, Ont. - It was a hot, Sunday afternoon at Richardson Stadium, but the Rams were able to beat the heat and end Queen’s five-game winning streak with a 2-1 win.

The first half began with Queen’s controlling the ball, and Ryerson deciding their approach for the rest of the half. Queen’s was pressing hard with six shots in the first half, forcing Ryerson to make strong defensive plays.

Midway through the first half, Ryerson decided to change their strategy. This lead to Alex Meczarski (Richmond Hill, Ont.) putting a header in the net during the 29th minute to get Ryerson would be on the board.

Not long after, Mirza Custovic (Toronto, Ont.) scores his own header from a cross during the 34th minute for his fifth goal of the season. At this point Queen’s had made only one save during the first half after three shots on net.

The Rams lost possession in the 39th minute, and as a result, Queen’s Antoine Noël scored to cut the Rams lead in half.

The second half consisted of Ryerson earning four more shots, bringing their total to seven, same as Queen’s. Rams goalkeeper Ali Ghazanfari (Stouffville, Ont.) kept Ryerson in the lead with four saves.  Ghazanfari made a diving save in the 79th minute after a strong ball from Nicholas Theodorakakis.

The Rams now stand at 6-0-1.
