Isabella's late goal lifts Rams over Nipissing

By Andrea Elliott

NORTH BAY, Ont. - Midfielder Matthew Isabella (Brampton, Ont.) played the role of hero for the Rams on Saturday, scoring the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to lift Ryerson over the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay.

The Rams opened the scoring just seven minutes into the game when team-leading goal scorer Abdallah El-Chanti (Toronto) scored his eighth goal of the year.

The Lakers weren't phased by the Rams' quick start, however, as Nipissing's Jack Collins found an equalizer just four minutes later. The early flurry of scoring would hold there, as the teams were locked at 1-1 at halftime.

Down the stretch it appeared the teams would be settling for a draw, but Isabella broke the tie in the 88th minute to give the Rams their seventh win of the year and put them back into a tie for first in the OUA east division.

Ryerson will wrap up their weekend road trip with a visit to the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. from Sudbury.
