Rams open weekend with commanding road win

By Luke Bellus

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams opened up their weekend road trip with a win over the McMaster Marauders Friday night.

The win is Ryerson’s sixth straight to start the year and keeps them on pace with fellow OUA powerhouse Carleton Ravens.

It was a game that saw Ryerson dominate almost every facet of the game, having more rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, second chance points and fast break points.

One area of the game where Ryerson dominated was the paint, 60 of Ryerson’s points came in the paint while McMaster only mustered 20. It was obvious that the Rams could do whatever they wanted in the paint all night long.

The Rams took control of the game early and often. And after one quarter of play it was Ryerson leading by nine.

One thing that became clear as the game went on was Ryerson’s ability to play hardnose defence, force tough shots and get rebounds.

When halftime rolled around the Rams held a 17-point advantage in the scoring department and had six more rebounds than the Marauders.

The 17-point lead was also powered by Myles Charvis who’s 17 points at the half led both teams.

All season the second half has been where Ryerson has found the ability to really separate themselves from the team their playing and this game was no different.

Ryerson outscored McMaster 46-31 in the second half fully taking control in the game and winning by 30 points or more for the fifth time this season.

Jean-Victor Mukama, playing in his hometown, led the Rams in scoring in this game. After a solid first half, Mukama followed that up with second half points and led the team with 28 points by the time all was said and done.

After missing last weekend’s road trip, Tanor Ngom was back in the lineup for the Rams in this game. He chipped in 15 points on 5-7 shooting and had seven rebounds.

Ryerson will be back in action Saturday night when they visit the Brock Badgers.
