Rams rock Brock with sizeable victory over Badgers
ST CATHARINES, Ont. — The Ryerson Rams asserted dominance and maintained their undefeated streak on Saturday night, taking an 81-55 win against the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines.
Ryerson’s Marin Scotten (Ottawa, Ont.) led the Rams with 17 points in 36 minutes, while Sofia Paska (Etobicoke, Ont.) had 10 rebounds in the win.
The Rams started slow but were virtually unstoppable once they got going. Ryerson had a narrow three-point lead at the end of the first quarter, but as the team eventually found their defensive footing, the scoring gap got more and more significant.
The Rams were ahead 40-25 at the half, holding Brock to just 10 points in the second quarter.
Rams rookie Rachel Farwell (Rothesay, N.B.) had an immediate impact after coming into the game early in the third quarter. In 15 minutes of play, Farwell tallied 12 points and two steals while shooting 57% (4-7) from beyond the arc.
The Rams managed to hold Brock to 10 points again in the third quarter, heading into the final 10 minutes of the game with a solid 30 point lead.
The Badgers fought back in the fourth, outscoring the Rams 20-16. Their efforts weren’t enough to stop the No. 2 nationally-ranked Rams, though, as Ryerson walked off the court with an 81-55 win over Brock.
Despite starting the weekend with the lowest three-point percentage in the OUA, the Rams have seen significant success from beyond the arc in their last two games. Shooting 36.8% from three tonight, the Rams enjoyed a boost in their season-long statistics and are now ranked 11th in the league in three-point percentage (25%).
The Rams will be back in action next weekend at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, taking on the Windsor Lancers on Friday and the Western Mustangs on Saturday.
