Rams back on the road, looking to start a streak at Guelph

By Christian Ryan

Coming out of their 1-1 homestand, the Ryerson Rams are back on the road as they take on the Guelph Gryphons at the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre on Wednesday night.

A loss to the Brock Badgers and win against the McMaster Marauders in two tight contests proved a major test for this Rams team at a time when they are figuring themselves out.

“We’ve got a number of things to clean up,” assistant coach Borko Popic said. “We certainly have a number of areas that we need to continue to tighten up. It’s still early November, we’re not a finished product. So we’re going to continue working and building, and just continuing to grow as a unit.”

Guelph is looking to turn the start to their season around, having just secured their first win in five games against the York Lions. Meanwhile, Ryerson is finding the depth in their roster. JV Mukama (Hamilton, Ont.) and Myles Charvis (Mississauga, Ont.) have put up career-best performances in recent games. As they take the lead of the team in points, their teammates have followed suit.

“JV and Myles are two of our leaders on this team,” Popic said. “We rely on them to be big parts of our offence. But as you saw against McMaster, we had four guys in double digits and we had one guy with seven, eight, and then we had six. Very well distributed offence, we have a very deep team. It’s great when we can get contributions from a number of guys.”

The Gryphons will play host to the Rams at the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre on Wednesday, November 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET. The following weekend, the Rams will return to the Mattamy Athletic Centre for back-to-back action against the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks.
