Garrett Forrest to suit up for Rams in 2018-19
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men's hockey program is proud to announce the commitment of goaltender Garrett Forrest for the 2018-19 season.
Forrest has spent the past two seasons with the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He appeared in 77 regular season games during that time and is the team’s career leader in wins and saves.
“I’m an athletic, hybrid goalie, focused on lateral quickness with an aggressive style of play,” said the Ashburn, Virginia native.
Prior to joining the Firebirds, Forrest played one season with the Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL). As a member of the Voodoos, he was named a first team all-star after leading the league in save percentage (.934) and shutouts (5) in 2015-16.
“Garrett is a very athletic goalie with great feet. He has a high compete level and is someone we look forward to developing both on and off the ice,” said Rams head coach Johnny Duco.
Forrest also played for the powerhouse midget AAA program Detroit Little Caesars.
“Winning my third Michigan AAA State Hockey Championship in major midget with Detroit Little Caesars,” explained Forrest when asked about the highlight of his athletic career so far. “I played three seasons of AAA hockey in Detroit after being recruited from Virginia. I back stopped three different teams to capture a Michigan AAA State Hockey Championship every season I played AAA hockey in Michigan.”
Forrest will begin his studies in Ryerson’s Business Technology Management program in September.
“Ryerson’s strong academic programs such as Business Technology Management, combined with an excellent hockey program while being located in a world-class city like Toronto, made the decision easy from me,” said Forrest.
“We are very excited to have Garrett join our program,” added Duco. “He is someone we targeted early in the recruiting process as a great fit both academically and athletically.
