Shoemaker to suit up for Rams in '18-19
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams announced Monday that Mark Shoemaker has committed to the Rams for the upcoming season, named as the first defenceman of the 2018-19 recruiting class.
Shoemaker joins the Rams after spending the last four seasons with the North Bay Battalion, and, more recently, the Guelph Storm. In 2016, Shoemaker was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the sixth round (180th overall) of the National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft.
In 240 OHL games, Shoemaker recorded six goals and 38 assists.
Shoemaker joined the North Bay Battalion in 2014-15, quickly adapting to his role on the North Bay blueline. After three seasons with the Battalion, Shoemaker was traded to the Guelph Storm in 2017 where he was named an alternate captain in his final OHL season.
“Mark is a strong defensive defenseman that will bring some size and toughness to our back end,” says Rams head coach Johnny Duco. “We as a staff feel that Mark has room to continue to grow the offensive side of his game and we look forward to working with him daily on meeting his goals.”
The Mississauga, Ont. native self-describes as a determined and hardworking competitor, naming his NHL draft day as the highlight of his athletic career thus far.
“Mark is someone who will look to make an immediate impact to the program both on and off the ice,” says Duco.
Shoemaker will enter Ryerson’s Business Management program in September.
