Stars of the Week
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week, ending September 9th.
Zoe Delorme - Fastpitch - 1st Year - Business Management
On opening weekend of the fastpitch season, first year pitcher Zoe Delorme was impressive on the mound. In her Rams debut, Delorme pitched a complete game and picked up nine strikeouts in a losing effort. The next day, Delorme struck out six McMaster batters over the course of seven innings and earned her first victory as the Rams defeated the Marauders 3-2.
Maria Poveda - Soccer - 3rd Year - Computer Science
The centre midfielder had a strong weekend in the middle of the pitch for the Rams. After registering one of Ryerson's five shots in Saturday's loss, Poveda challenged her teammates to shoot more and the Rams responded on Sunday. Poveda led the charge with four shots and the team tallied 18 in total as Ryerson earned a 0-0 draw against Carleton.
Yuliia Romanenko - Cross Country - 3rd Year - Criminology
The third year runner participated in the Longboat Toronto Island Race this past weekend, which also served as the Rams' official tryout, and finished fifth amongst 301 women. Romanenko ran the 5km distance in a time of 19:59 for a 3:59 per kilometre pace.
Mike Konstantopoulos - Cross Country - 4th Year - Aerospace Engineering
Konstantopoulos started his competitive season strong, running a 3:25 per kilometre pace in the 10km Longboat Toronto Island Race on Saturday. One of the longest serving Rams on the roster, Konstantopoulos finished fifth overall in a field of 629 runners.
Kevin Lucas - Baseball - 1st Year - Graduate Studies
After Ryerson lost their season opener on Saturday to Guelph, Lucas came out and shut down the Gryphons offence over six strong innings in the second game of the doubleheader. Ryerson staked Lucas to an early lead, but he held the Gryphons in check allowing just two runs on five hits while adding four strikeouts. Lucas earned the team's first win of the season in his OUA debut.
Kai Martin - Soccer - 1st Year - Business Management
Martin played a strong two-way game on Sunday in the Rams' only game of the week. In a battle of two U SPORTS Top Ten ranked teams, Martin helped the No. 4 Rams earn a 0-0 draw against the No. 5 Carleton Ravens. Martin was mobile and played a complete game, rushing with the forwards on offence while standing strong on the back end.
