Rams shut out UOIT

By Cara Gilhula

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams visited the UOIT Ridgebacks at Vaso’s Field on October 10th. The Rams earned their 11th win of the season with a 3-0 shut out.

Nathaniel Tambakis (Toronto, Ont.) began the offensive attacks on the Ridgebacks with a strong cross to Christopher Castillo (Maple, Ont).

Not long after, midfielder Matthew Isabella (Brampton, Ont.) was deep into the Ridgebacks' zone to earn a chance at a rebound, but the Ridgebacks closed the opening.

The Rams found the back of the net for the first time in the 27th minute after a rebound by Abdallah El-Chanti (Toronto, Ont). Although, the Rams were called offside and the goal was overturned.

With the goal to achieve a new win streak for the rest of the season, Ryerson was determined to continue the pressure. Raheem Rose (Toronto, Ont.) earned another great chance for the Rams after a stable strike on net. Although, he was unable to complete the play.

Halftime was approaching fast, and the Rams were still tied at 0-0, although Castillo wasn’t ready to give up after his first unsuccessful attempt. After a strong cross from Muaz Saleh (Hamilton, Ont.), Castillo scored his first-ever OUA goal to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.

The second half started off as a slow start for both the Rams and UOIT. The Rams only lead by 1-0, and were struggling to keep contact with the ball in the Ridgebacks' end. Although, the defense was strong from the Rams and they kept UOIT from seeing too many chances.

On the other hand, Alex Meczarski (Richmond Hill, Ont.) took a chance and fired the ball way outside of the box, and found the back of the net. The Rams lead 2-0, giving the team an opportunity to breathe as they entered the last 15 minutes of the game.

Out of nowhere, Yuri Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) earned his second goal of the season to give the Rams a 3-0 lead.

The final score was 3-0.

Rams goalie Andrew Shahrivar (Toronto, Ont.) accepted the shut out for the evening. Shahrivar committed to each movement, and executed each strategy with great confidence. He was an asset in net, and helped push the Rams to find their offensive approach.

The Rams look to continue and evolve their new win streak when they return home to Downsview Park on Saturday, October 13th. Kick off is at 7:30pm. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter for updates.
