Rams host Lions in return to Coca-Cola Court
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men's volleyball team will start off the new year by welcoming Toronto rival, the York Lions, to the Coca-Cola Court on January 12th at 4:00 p.m.
On Saturday the Rams and Lions will go head to head for the second time this season, and it will be a volleyball game that fans will not want to miss. Previously, the Rams won 3-2 after being neck and neck most of the game, and taking it to a close fifth set (19-25, 25-23, 25-16, 22-25, 19-17). The Rams are looking for a repeat of this result, except they are hoping to come out swinging a lot faster with stronger defense.
The Rams are 5-3 and the York Lions are 3-4. The game will be the first for the Rams on home court in over two months, dating back to November 9, 2018.
After beginning the season with basically an entire new team of seven first years, seven second years, one third year, one fourth year, and one older eligibility player, the Rams weren’t sure what to expect heading into the OUA.
Fortunately, the Rams have been able to walk away against some teams with three sets and are able to challenge other teams to five. The Rams may come up short on occasion, but not without making the team work for their points.
Ryerson first year Xander Ketrzynski has been a valuable asset to the Rams. He leads the OUA with 5.21 kills per set and a total of 151 kills.
Along with Ketrzynski, many of the Rams have stepped up and taken on different leadership positions to help the Rams succeed thus far. These skills will continue to be tested this weekend against York and the rest of the season. Although, this proves that the Rams will continue to grow, and create a team dynamic that will help carry them through the rest of the season, hopefully give them a chance at the playoffs, and ensure that they will become reliable in the years to come.
The game will commence at 4:00 p.m. after the completion of the women’s game on the Coca-Cola Court on Saturday, January 12th. For live updates follow us on Twitter and catch the game on OUA.tv.
