Dr. Beth McCharles joined Ryerson Athletics and Recreation in August 2010 as the Athlete Services Co-ordinator.

In the role of Athlete Services Co-ordinator, McCharles develops, delivers and evaluates academic success programs for Ryerson student-athletes. This includes monitoring academic programs and assisting student- athletes with effective study skill strategies. She also serves as the sport psychologist for Ryerson's varsity teams.

McCharles has over 12 years of experience in high performance sport as a coach, psychologist and student-athlete.

The head coach of the Canadian national military women's soccer team since 2008, McCharles  was also head coach of the University of Toronto women's varsity team for four years. In 2004, she took over a Toronto squad that won one game the previous season and turned it into a nationally ranked program. She coached four CIS all-Canadians and 17 OUA all-stars at Toronto, and was named OUA Coach of the Year in 2006-07. McCharles also served as general manager for Team Canada's women's soccer team at the 2007 FISU Summer Universiade (World University Games) in Bangkok, Thailand and was an assistant coach with the team at the 2005 Universiade in Izmir, Turkey.

As a performance coach, McCharles has worked with a variety of clients including university athletic departments, professional athletes, sport governing bodies and non- profit organizations. She is also a facilitator and mentor with the National Coaching Institute Ontario (NCI Ontario).

McCharles was a student-athlete with the St. Francis Xavier University women's soccer team. During her four seasons with the X-Women she was named team captain, conference MVP and a two-time CIS all-Canadian. She also played one season with the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees, where she was team captain, team MVP and an OUA all-star. McCharles was also selected to play for Team Canada at the 2001 and 2003 FISU Summer Universiades. At the 2003 event she was named team captain of the Canadian squad.

McCharles has a BA in Human Kinetics from St. Francis Xavier, a MA in Human Kinetics from Ottawa and a PhD of Philosophy in Exercise Science from the University of Toronto. She is a member of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology, the Canadian Sport Psychology Association and the Canadian Psychology Association.
