Prior to joining Ryerson, Wilson was involved in event operations at the University of Waterloo, where she served as the student coordinator for men's and women's volleyball as well as football.

She received an honours degree in Speech Communication at the University of Waterloo, a MPC at Ryerson University and is pursuing a PHD in higher education at the University of Toronto.

Wilson has competed for Canada as a figure skater, becoming the 2002 Junior National Champion and finishing eighth at the Junior World Championships in the same year.
