TORONTO- The Ryerson Rams women's soccer program is proud to announce the commitment of two more athletes to its 2012 recruiting class. Alex Goudis of Concord, Ont. and hometown native Alexandra Cristiano will be joining the women this fall. Both are looking to help the squad improve over its program-best year in 2011.

Goudis is a multiple tournament winner with the Richmond Hill Soccer Club, and has found success on the high school level as well, taking home the York Region Tier 1 title in 2009 and reaching the finals the following year.

The St. Elizabeth C.H.S. product and midfielder, who also garners strong cross-country talents, is a two-time finalist for her school athlete of the year award. She will be pursuing a sociology major at Ryerson.

"I chose to pursue my athletic and academic career with Ryerson because I feel that it is the best fit for me when it comes to these two factors as it met all my needs," said Goudis. "Also, I like the way that the soccer program is on the rise with its new facilities and I am excited to be part of that."

"Alex has been identified as a creative, technically skilled and tenacious outside midfielder," said Soccer Co-ordinator Kevin Souter. "I do believe that Alex offers a versatility that may see her contribute in several areas on the field. Being willing to learn and grow with the program will ensure Alex is both successful on and off the field."

Cristiano is a 5'3'' midfielder who was named the Michael Power- St. Joseph C.H.S. athlete of the year in 2009. She was an Ontario Cup champion in 2006, and has represented her province at the U14, U15, and U16 levels. The Etobicoke Youth Soccer Club player will be studying international economics and finance.

"Ryerson was my first choice when it came to carefully selecting a university to pursue my academic and athletic career," said Cristiano. "Ryerson has an excellent academic reputation with endless possibilities of courses to enroll in and I feel that I will be able to fulfill all of my academic goals and curiosities at Ryerson. The soccer program offers a skilled coaching staff, a team with excellent worth ethic and players who come together to achieve the common goal of balancing school work while pursuing the passion for playing soccer."

"Alexandra combines poise with defensive presence on the soccer field," said Souter. "I was immediately impressed with her touch and ability to play in midfield areas. Her attitude and commitment to becoming a Ram exemplifies her conviction to learn and develop within the program. Alexandra will be an important player moving forward if she continues to push herself on and off the field."
