TORONTO - One of the heavyweights of NCAA basketball will visit the Mattamy Athletic Centre on October 20, when the Ryerson Rams host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in pre-season action.

The game will serve as the finale for the first annual Ryerson Hoops Festival, an all day event of basketball games and clinics at Ryerson’s new facility at the former Maple Leaf Gardens. Click Here for more information on Ryerson Hoops Festival.

The Demon Deacons expect to challenge for a post-season berth in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), one of the toughest conferences in the NCAA that includes perennial national contenders North Carolina and Duke.

Coach Jeff Bzdelik is entering the third season of his rebuild at Wake Forest after spending 17 seasons in the NBA, most recently as head coach of the Denver Nuggets.

The Demon Deacons return four scholarship letterwinners, including the ACC's top two leading returning scorers in C.J. Harris (16.7 ppg) and Travis McKie (16.1). The Deacons are also welcoming in seven freshmen this season.

Notable Wake Forest alumni include Tim Duncan, Chris Paul, Randolph Childress, Mugsy Bogues and Rusty Larue.

The Rams are looking to build on last year’s breakout season that saw them qualify for the CIS Final 8 for the first time since 1998-99, while also winning their first-ever game at a national championship. Led by two-time first-team OUA all-star Jahmal Jones, second team OUA all-star Jordon Gauthier and Ryerson's Male Rookie of the Year and OUA all-rookie Aaron Best, the Rams boast a strong core that is complimented by another solid recruiting class.

The Rams will welcome Wake Forest for a 7:00 p.m. start and the game will be held in the arena at Mattamy Athletic Centre, below the iconic Maple Leaf Gardens domed ceiling.
