KINGSTON, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams men’s hockey team opened the OUA regular season with a 6-3 loss to the Queen’s Gaels Friday night in Kingston, Ontario.
Ryerson out shot Queen’s 37-16 through the first 40 minutes but trailed 4-3. The Gaels would add an insurance marker with a power play goal with six minutes to go in the third period.
Fifth-year forward Greg Payne opened the scoring on the power play just 50 seconds into the middle frame. Queen’s responded with four straight goals before Jason Kelly and Kent McPherson, with his first career OUA goal, pulled the Rams within one heading into the third period.
Patrick McGillis, Brandon Perry, Jordan Mirwaldt, Braeden Corbeth, Joey Derochie and Brock Ouellet scored for Queen’s.
Troy Passingham stopped 27 of 33 shots in goal for Ryerson, while Riley Whitlock saved 44 of 47 shots for Queen’s. The Rams held a 47-33 advantage in shots on goal.
The Rams went 2-for-6 with the man advantage, while the Gaels were 2-for-8 on the power play.
Ryerson (0-1) wraps up a two-game road trip Saturday with a game at RMC (0-1).
