OUR MISSION: "To use the power of sport to breakdown financial and social barriers and to build bridges with inner-city youth by training and engaging our 400 student-athletes to be mentors and role models working hand-in-hand with agencies and partners across the city who share a similar passion."

The Core Elements of Ryerson Rams Care

Mentorship Program

The Ryerson Rams Care program's core initiative is sending student-athletes out into the community to work alongside councilors and teachers in the mentorship of at-risk youth. Agency partners include Toronto Community Housing, Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club of Toronto and select TDSB elementary schools in Ryerson's local community.

Hosting Community Events on Campus

Working with our agencies and partners, we host events, programs and varsity games that provide youth with the opportunity to experience Ryerson University first hand and watch their Ryerson Rams mentors in action. These initiatives include Jays Care Big Sports Days, Winter Basketball Academy Powered by Nike, Recreation and Leadership Certificate program and inviting youth to attend Ryerson Rams home games for an exciting fan experience.

Send Kids to Camp Program

Many families in the community simply cannot afford to send their child to summer camp so we have launched a Kids to Camp initiative with the goal of sending over 250 at-risk youth to camp over the course of the summer. Ryerson Athletics currently runs a number of summer camps including:

  • An 8 week sport and arts day camp that attracts over 1,800 youth each summer
  • A 4 week basketball camp with over 250 campers
  • A 4 week hockey camp with over 250 campers
