Rams clinch playoff spot over weekend
TORONTO - In only its second year of competition, the Ryerson fastpitch team has clinched a playoff spot with two victories over Windsor over the weekend. With four games remaining in the season, the team will be shooting for a top five position in the standings.
Brock University 6 - Ryerson University 3
Ryerson fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 6-3 loss to Brock University on Friday. Ryerson lost despite out-hitting Brock University eight to seven.
Emily Rickson threw four innings of shutout relief. Carly Forrester, Kaylyn Munro, and Olivia Stelmachowicz each had multiple hits for the team.
Brock University 10 - Ryerson University 5
Ryerson lost the lead late in a 10-5 defeat to Brock University in the second game of the doubleheader. The game was tied at four when Brock scored six runs in the sixth inning to clinch the game.
Ryerson fired up the offense in the first inning. Olivia Stelmachowicz drove in one when she doubled. The team tallied three runs in the third inning. Emma Carr, Abbigail Thompson, and Carly Forrester each had RBIs in the frame.
Ryerson University 13 - University of Windsor 2
Emma Carr gave University of Windsor fits, as she bagged four hits in Ryerson’s 13-2 victory on Saturday. Carr tripled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the third, and homered in the fourth. The team scored six runs in the third inning. Emily Rickson, Carr, Abbigail Thompson, Taylar Oats, and Olivia Stelmachowicz powered the big inning with RBIs.
Samantha Jackson led things off on the rubber for Ryerson as she only allowed five hits and two runs over four innings, walking one.
Ryerson University 9 - University of Windsor 3
Emma Carr was clutch at the plate with runners on base in the second game of the double header, driving in four on two hits to lead Ryerson past University of Windsor 9-3. Carr drove in runs on a home run in the second and a home run in the sixth.
An early lead helped propel the team to victory, scoring on a double by Emily Rickson and a home run by Carr in the second inning. Ryerson pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning with Rickson’s second double of the game, scoring one run and Carr homered on a 1-2 count, scoring three runs.
Abbigail Thompson took the win as she allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out four.
Western University 8 - Ryerson University 0
Ryerson watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 8-0 loss to the undefeated and first place Western University Mustangs on Sunday.
Olivia Stelmachowicz, Vanessa Flacco, Thompson, and Taylar Oats each collected one hit to lead Ryerson. Despite the score, the team was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error in the game.

Despite an early lead, Ryerson could not hold back the powerful Western University in the second game of the double header. Ryerson got things moving in the first inning, when Emma Carr scored on a groundout by Olivia Stelmachowicz. The team tallied six hits in the game with Emily Rickson and Emma Carr all managing multiple hits.
