Rams add Jones to the roster for 2018-19
TORONTO – The two-time U SPORTS silver medallist Ryerson Rams men’s basketball team is pleased to announce the addition of Jaren Jones for the 2018-19 season.
A native of Mississauga, Jones is a guard who spent the past year with the Central Tech Blues of the National Preparatory Association (NPA). An honour roll student with a strong work ethic, he helped the Blues to a third place finish in the NPA.
“Jaren is one of the top high school prep guards in the city and defensively he will make an immediate impact at the U SPORTS level,” said Rams head coach Roy Rana. “He comes to us from the powerhouse Central Tech program that has pumped out high level players over the past few seasons under the tutelage of legendary coach Kevin Jeffers.”
Prior to joining Central Tech, Jones attended Mississauga Secondary School where he was a three-time team MVP. He was also an alternate for Team Ontario during the summer of 2016.
“I am a hard worker and try to be the best player I can be by perfecting my craft,” said Jones. “Although I have a lot of work to do to achieve my goals, I know I won’t give up.”
Jones' older brother Jahmal played five seasons (2010-2015) for the Rams before embarking on a professional career in Europe after graduating from Ryerson's Business Technology Management program..
“Jaren has been part of our team for almost a decade,” said Rana. “He has been part of our summer camp development program and attended games for many years. It's special for us to now have him represent us as a student-athlete."
Jones is looking forward to joining the Rams this fall.
“I feel like it is a great fit for me. It will help me with the sport I would like to play in the future along with my academics,” said Jones. “Ryerson is not far from my hometown compared to other universities, so it fits with all my criteria.”
The Rams 2018-19 basketball season begins with training camp in September before regular season play starts in late October.
