Rams finish regular season on the road

By Cara Gilhula

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams will travel for their last time this regular season to visit the Brock Badgers on February 8th and the York Lions on February 10th.

Even though the Rams beat the Laurier Golden Hawks 6-2 last weekend, the Rams are looking to come back after a heartbreaking 5-4 shootout loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues.

The No. 9 Rams are 18-5-3 heading into their last two regular season games this weekend.

The first faceoff will begin with the No. 7 Brock Badgers on Friday night at the Seymour-Hannah Centre at 7:15 p.m. In their last showings this season the Rams won 4-3 and lost 4-1 and 5-0 to the Badgers. The Rams are tied with the Badgers atop the OUA West standings with 39 points.

Brock may be higher up in national rankings than the Rams, however, Ryerson has more players on the OUA leaderboard.

Brock’s goalie Logan Thompson is the only Badger representative on the board. Thompson is second with a .936 save percentage and 700 saves. He is in third with a 2.16 goals against average. Although, Thompson is fourth for win percentage with .773 in comparison to Ryerson’s Taylor Dupuis who sits in second with a .800.

Thompson will need to be on his game to take on Ryerson’s strong offense. Matt Mistele continues to lead the OUA with 48 points with Mathew Santos not far behind with 42. Alex Basso also found his way on to the board at number five with 37 points.

Santos leads the OUA with a Ryerson record-breaking total of 23 goals and nine power play goals. Mistele is also in fourth with 19 goals and fifth with seven power play goals. Overall, Ryerson has a total of 126 goals thus far.

Notably, Basso leads the OUA with 30 assists and Mistele trails right behind with 29.

On Sunday evening the Rams will visit Canlan Ice Sports at 7:00 p.m. to visit the York Lions. During their last showings, the Rams beat the Lions 8-3 and 7-6.

The York Lions have 26 points, and their goalie Mack Shields is the only Lion to sit on the OUA leaderboard in fourth place with 667 saves.

The Rams need to keep a poised defence and continue to perform offensively in order to return their confidence again before playoffs.

Overall, this weekend will be a great showdown between the Ryerson Rams and the Brock Badgers and the York Lions that will not want to be missed. Be sure to tune in to and @ryersonrams on Twitter for live updates.
