Stars of the Week
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week, ending February 10th.
Sofia Paska - Basketball - 5th Year - Human Resources Management
Paska had a strong road trip up north as the women's basketball team defeated Nipissing and Laurentian. On Friday night Paska recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The next night the fifth year senior poured in 27 points, a season-high, and collected eight rebounds. She now ranks fifth in the OUA in rebounds per game while her 13.3 points per game continues to climb and puts her first on the Rams.
Lauren Veltman - Volleyball - 3rd Year - Child & Youth Care
Tying her season-high, Veltman racked up 18 kills on Friday night to help the No. 5 Rams hand the No. 4 Waterloo Warriors their first loss of the season. Veltman also picked up 10 digs and hit in impressive 0.441% on the night. The following night against Guelph, the third year outside hitter collected 15 kills, six digs, and two and a half blocks. Veltman now sits fifth in the OUA with a 3.31 kills per set average.
Cailin Wark - Volleyball - 3rd Year - Geographic Analysis
Wark had an efficient attacking weekend, and posted double digits in kills in back-to-back games. On Friday night Wark posted 12 kills and five digs on a 0.370% to help the Rams stop Waterloo's unbeaten streak. The next night, the third year right side picked up 14 kills, six digs, two service aces, and hit at a 0.400% clip to lift the Rams over Guelph. Wark ranks third in the OUA in hitting percentage at a 0.335% season percentage.
John Carpino - Hockey - 5th Year - Arts & Contemporary Studies
Playing in his final two regular season games as a Ram, Carpino had a productive weekend to help Ryerson win out on the last weekend of play. On Friday night Carpino tallied three assists as the Rams defeated Brock 5-4 in overtime. Then on Sunday night, Carpino scored both of Ryerson's goals in a 2-1 victory over York which sealed first place in the division for the Rams.
Xander Ketrzynski - Volleyball - 1st Year - Arts & Contemporary Studies
First year outside hitter Ketrzynski made his presence felt on the court this weekend as the Rams defeated two tough west division teams in five sets. On Friday night Ketrzynski piled up 23 kills, five service aces, four and a half blocks, and hit at a 0.452% clip as Ryerson came back from down 2-0 to defeat Waterloo 3-2. That was just a precursor for more to come from Ketrzynski, as on Saturday night the first year player set a new Ryerson single-game record with a whopping 33 kills, while adding seven digs, one and a half blocks, and one service ace. Ketrzynski holds down top spot in the OUA in kills, kills per set, and service aces per set. He also sits fourth in hitting percentage.
Alexander Zwegers - Fencing - 1st Year - Computer Engineering
First year fencer Zwegers made a splash at his first OUA championship this weekend, bringing home the individual bronze medal in the epee discipline. After losing to the eventual champion in the semifinal, Zwegers bounced back to take a 15-11 decision to win the bronze medal.
