Rams return home from Hockey Canada Summer Showcase
CALGARY — Ryerson Rams women’s hockey forwards Erika Crouse (Kirkland Lake, Ont.) and Brooklyn Gemmill (Cambridge, Ont.) wrapped up their five-game campaign with the U SPORTS All-Stars at the Hockey Canada Summer Showcase last week in Calgary, Alberta.
Team U SPORTS went 2-1-2 in the tournament, earning wins against Japan and France early on at the annual showcase.
Crouse tallied an assist on U SPORTS’ opening goal of the tournament against Japan on August 6, helping her team to a 4-1 victory.
U SPORTS went on to earn a 2-1 win over France the following day before dropping back-to-back contests against Hockey Canada’s red and gold development teams on Thursday and Friday.
In the team's final game of the tournament, Crouse would score an unassisted goal at 2:25 of the first period to open up the scoring for U SPORTS.
“It was pretty messy at first. Just covering one of the defense, and one of my players got me the puck,” explained Crouse. “I just tried to find a lane and shot it.”
U SPORTS eventually fell 4-3 to Japan in overtime, marking the end of the 2019 Hockey Canada Summer Showcase.
Hockey Canada announced their rosters for the National Women’s Development team on Sunday, featuring four players fresh off the U SPORTS development team. Calgary’s Kelsey Roberts, UNB’s Kendra Woodland, Concordia’s Emmy Fecteau and Montreal’s Audrey-Anne Veillette are set to join Hockey Canada as they compete in a three-game series against the United States this week.
The Rams will return home to begin preparations for the 2019-20 OUA season, kicking off their exhibition schedule against Montreal on September 13, 2019, at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
