Rams land Holden Cook and Domenico Commisso

By Jessica Pincente

TORONTO — The Ryerson Rams men’s hockey team is excited to announce that Holden Cook and Domenico Commisso will be suiting up for the Rams in 2019-20.

A native of Whitby, Ont., Cook joins the Rams after spending four years at St. Francis Xavier (St. FX) University in Nova Scotia. Hailing from an historic X-Men team, Cook is a two-time AUS champion (2016, 2017) and a three-time U SPORTS/CIS finalist. Cook contributed consistent numbers at St. FX, scoring 27 points in each of his first two seasons on the team. The former AUS All-Rookie peaked offensively in his junior year, scoring a team-best 10 goals and 27 assists in 29 regular season games.

He led his team in scoring yet again this past season, scoring 13 goals and 16 assists in 27 regular season contests. His X-Men finished the year as AUS finalists and U SPORTS bronze medalists.

“Holden has demonstrated strong leadership qualities and has an ability to elevate his game in the biggest moments, something we are certainly looking forward to adding to our group as we look to take the next step as a program,” says Rams head coach Johnny Duco. “Holden plays a strong 200-foot game and has the ability to play a variety of roles.”

Commisso joins the Rams after spending the last four years in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The Oakville, Ont. native was traded from the Oshawa Generals to the Guelph Storm in his overage season and went on to score nine goals and 24 assists (33 points) in 58 games.

“We are delighted to add [Domenico] to our hockey program,” says Duco. “Dom is a talented playmaking centre that plays a well rounded 200 foot game. Dom is coming off an OHL championship and showed an ability to elevate his game during Guelph's playoff run.”

Across 24 playoff games, Commisso totaled 11 points en route to his first and final OHL championship. In his last two seasons with Oshawa, Commisso recorded 63 points in 68 games and 62 points in 63 games (2017-18).

“As a staff, we are excited to work with Dom as he continues to develop both on and off the ice,” adds Duco.

Commisso is set to enter the university’s undergraduate Geographic Analysis program, while Cook will be pursuing a Master’s of Business Administration at Ryerson after completing his undergraduate degree in Nova Scotia.
