Ryerson University has a proud athletic tradition dating back to the 1940s.  Today, the Ryerson Rams operate 11 varsity teams that compete provincially in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and nationally in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS).

The Rams offer competitive teams in men’s and women’s basketball, hockey, volleyball, soccer, badminton, fencing and figure skating.

Ivan Joseph, DIrector of Ryerson Athletics and Recreation

A new era began for Ryerson Athletics and Recreation when Dr. Ivan Joseph was named Director of Athletics on April 23, 2008. After familiarizing himself with the University community and consulting with students, staff, faculty and senior administration, the athletics and recreation department went through an exhaustive self-assessment to begin answering: where are we, where do we want to go and how do we get there. This self-assessment has led to the creation of a five-year strategic plan, which will guide the annual work of staff, coaches, administrators and stake holders in support of our vision to become one of the best athletic and recreation programs in Canada.

Athletics & Recreation Mission Statement

Ryerson University’s Athletics & Recreation Department will champion a spirit of belonging, pride and excellence, which invigorates the student body, enriches the academic experience and develops the whole student.
