Rams need to maintain efforts through weekend homestand

By Jessica Pincente

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams have had quite the start to their 2017-18 regular season, winning all three of their games and establishing themselves as a contender on the national scale.

The undefeated Rams have only lost two sets through three games this season, and will be looking to keep up their winning record through their two games this upcoming weekend.  Ryerson broke into the U SPORTS national rankings this week as well, currently sitting in the 10th spot in the country.

On Friday the team will travel to York University to take on the Lions at 6:00 pm.  The Lions hold a 2-1 record on the season, sweeping both Queen’s and RMC by three sets to none in two of their most recent matchups.  The Lions currently lead the OUA in their kills per set measure, averaging a total of 13.2 K/S total.  Additionally, the Lions sit second in regards to digs per set, totaling a 17.2 D/S average.  The Lions have excellent attacking and defending statistics, but their single loss on the season, a 3-1 defeat to the Nipissing Lakers, has bumped them to fourth in the OUA’s Eastern conference standings.  Ryerson will need to be particularly strong against the Lions if they intend to keep their win-streak alive on Friday.

Ryerson will play host to the Trent Excalibur on Sunday afternoon at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.  The Rams faced off against Trent this past weekend, tallying a dominant 3-0 victory in Peterborough.  The Excalibur have yet to win a game this year, going 0-4 through their regular season matchups.
