Rams continue winning ways against UOIT

By Ryan Bacic

OSHAWA, Ont. - It was another victorious afternoon for the Ryerson Rams, as they once again eclipsed the UOIT Ridgebacks 3-1 at Vaso’s Field in Oshawa.  However, in a near repeat of the last time these two teams faced off, this win was not easily acquired.

Fresh off a win against the Carleton Ravens, the Rams stormed the pitch with confidence, determined to pressure the Ridgebacks early on in the match.  Through a combination of high-pressure man-to-man coverage, and aggressive offensive drives, the Rams were able keep consistent pressure on UOIT’s defensive lineup through key portions of the first-half.  This approach allowed the Rams to clinch the first goal of the match, with Raheem Rose (Toronto, Ont.) contributing a long-distance goal in the 43rd minute to put Ryerson up 1-0 heading into the half.

Upon the resumption of play, the game took on a very familiar tone.  As the match creeped past its 65th minute of regulation, the antagonisms and hostilities that had been apparent between the two teams in their previous encounter began to expose themselves.  The tense feeling on the field only intensified when, in the 82nd minute, Davon Greaves (Ajax, Ont.) put the Ridgebacks on the board with a goal from outside the goalkeepers’ box, tying up the scoreboard at 1-1.

Suddenly, the Rams were left to fight for a goal.  In the dying moments of the match, the Rams would be provided with this goal by Misel Klisara (Mississauga, Ont.) who took advantage of a sloppy UOIT defensive lineup in the 87th minute.  During the last few moments of injury time, Abdallah El-Chanti (Toronto, Ont.) provided the final goal that pushed the Rams to the final score of 3-1.
