Rams win first game of Limestone City road trip

By Adam Jenkins

KINGSTON — The Ryerson Rams were too much for the hometown Queen's Gaels to handle, cruising to a 3-0 win at Richardson Stadium on Saturday.

Abdallah El-Chanti's goal in the 38th minute was enough to seal the victory, but Raheem Rose and Andrew Dias wanted to get in on the goal scoring as well, as the Ryerson Rams continue to push towards the playoffs with a convincing effort in Kingston. The win extends the Rams' unbeaten streak against the Gaels to five, dating back to September 6, 2015.

With the Rams in control of the game in the dying minutes of the first half, Andrew Dias (Toronto, Ont.) was taken down in the box by Gaels fullback Chris Meyer, which allowed Raheem Rose (Toronto, Ont.) to step up from the spot and slide Ryerson's second goal of the game to the right of the Tricolour's Alex Jones.

"Playing at Queen's is always a tall task. The strength of our team in today's game was in our depth," said Rams head coach Filip Prostran. "I think we have shown that playing different combinations of players down the stretch.

Early in the second half, Dias was looking for more. After receiving a beautiful back heel from Misel Klisara (Mississauga, Ont.), Rose delivered a perfect ball through to Dias and he made no mistake from seven yards out. Ryerson controlled the tempo the rest of the way, with Praveen Ahilan (Unionville, Ont.) maintaining the clean sheet.

"Considering the tight playoff contest we had with them last year, this game was always going to be high energy from the start." I thought we dealt with it well in the early stages and showed what we can do in the second half after we settled down," added Prostran. "We have a job to do tomorrow against RMC and that is where our focus is."

A win tomorrow against the RMC Paladins would see the Rams move to 4-6-1 on the season, with the playoffs just four weeks away.
