Cavin Leth to suit up for Rams in 2017-18 season

By Adam Jenkins

TORONTO — Johnny Duco and the Ryerson Rams men's hockey team are pleased to announce Cavin Leth as their ninth recruit of the offseason.

After spending his last four seasons in the Western Hockey League, most recently with the Prince Albert Raiders, Leth has committed to play his university hockey in the OUA.

"Cavin is a person that we are extremely happy to add to our hockey program. His combination of size and skill will be a great asset to our team and will complement the up-tempo style of game we like to play," said Rams head coach Johnny Duco. "Cavin has the ability to make the players around him better and is someone I really look forward to coaching over the next 4-5 years.”

Leth describes himself as a hardworking, determined, and positive athlete. He also says that he loves new challenges and that he tries to push his teammates to be better on the ice and off the ice.

"I take pride in the jersey I wear and love to lead by example," he concluded.

The Taber, Alta. native has proven he knows how to be a strong leader, earning the assistant captaincy with both the Seattle Thunderbirds and Prince Albert Raiders.

"Winning the (2015-16) WHL Western Conference championship and then playing in the WHL Finals on national television is the highlight of my athletic career so far," Cavin reflected. "Although we didn't win the (league) championship it was a very high point in my career and a great learning experience."

Leth recorded a stat line of 23 goals, 16 assists, 39 points, and 93 PIMs in 68 games between the Thunderbirds and the Raiders in 2016-17. In 2017, he was awarded the CTV Best Defensive Forward and the Third Star of the Season by the Raiders at their year-end awards.

"I chose Ryerson because I believe that it is a culture that I can have success in the classroom as well as on the ice,” Leth said. “Visiting Toronto often during these past summers have made me fall in love with the city and it's a place I'm excited to spend the next 4-5 years of my life."

Leth will begin his studies in Ryerson's Geographic Analysis program beginning in September.

The Ryerson Rams will open their 2017-18 regular season on Thursday, October 12 in Guelph. You can view the full men's hockey schedule here, and you can read their schedule preview here.
