Alumnus Best drafted into NBA G-League, traded to Raptors 905

TORONTO - The first Ryerson Ram to hoist an OUA championship trophy for Ryerson University has now become the first Rams player drafted into the NBA G-League, the development league for the NBA.

Saturday's G-League draft took place from the league's headquarters in New York and Rams alumnus Aaron Best was selected 42nd overall by the Long Island Nets.

Shortly after being drafted it was announced Best had been traded to the Raptors 905 squad.

Best played five seasons with the Rams from 2011-16 and is one of the most decorated Ryerson athletes of all time. Best sits third in all-time scoring at Ryerson and sixth in rebounds. Best's game was one of the most complete; scoring at a high rate with both highlight reel plays and sharp shooting at his disposal, along with steady defence.

Best won one OUA Wilson Cup championship, the first of Ryerson's back-to-back titles, as well as a pair of CIS national bronze medals. He was named Ryerson's male athlete of the year on two occasions and was the rookie of the year back in 2011.

After his Rams career ended Best signed a two-year professional contract with Juventus in the Lithuanian Division 1 league. This summer Best was invited to an open tryout with Raptors 905 and his play must have made a lasting impression as the team made it clear they wanted him by acquiring his rights.

If Best were to crack the Raptors 905 team he would become the first CIS/U SPORTS graduate to do so.
