Rams win American College Cricket championship
LAUDERHILL, Fla. - Season after season of dreaming to bring home the American College Cricket victory, the Ryerson Rams have returned back home as the unsung heroes.
Last week, the Rams added another feather to their hat when they claimed victory representing Canada and defeating their host country.
As champions of the 9th annual American College Cricket National Championship presented by SLING, the Rams concluded the action-packed week with a massive victory against Everest University.
The tournament was held at the Central Broward Regional Park in sunny Florida, where 28 American universities competed to win the title. Ryerson was the only Canadian team to compete in the tournament.
Heading down from a tiring journey, the Rams didn’t shy away from a tough start against the University of Illinois, posting 203 runs in their allocated 20 overs. The wins followed suit in the second game against their adversary, Rutgers.
The Rams continued their strong start as they made their way into the last league match against the Florida Tech Panthers, executing a mammoth total, diving into the playoffs for the national title.
Heading into the quarters round, Ryerson completely outplayed Harvard University to qualify for the semifinal. In the semis, Ryerson won a thriller of a match against their archrivals, University of South Florida (USF), and defended a low scoring game to win by only 5 runs in a nail-biting finish.
Ryerson Rams stayed true to their name, as they plunged into the final match of the American College Cricket National Championship; the Rams posted129 runs and easily defended the total to bring home the 2017 ACC trophy.
The achievement owes itself to a true and comprehensive team effort where every member of the team contributed in one manner or another. The Ryerson Rams made history by winning the 2017 ACC trophy.
The next big tournament they are looking forward to is the Canadian College Cricket National Championship taking place in King City, Ontario in August.
