GUELPH, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams golf team continued their season at the Guelph Invitational, Monday at Cutten Fields and in the process, accomplished a first for the Rams program. The performances of Andrew Hudencial and Ryan MacMillan marked the first time two Ryerson Rams finished in the top-20 in any OUA event.
Andrew Hudencial led the way for the Rams with a solid 75, and marked the first time a Ryerson golfer has placed in the top-20 (T-17th) in an invitational since 2013. After carding a first nine 39 (+4), Andrew finished his round with a birdie on the 9th (his 18th), to play the back nine in 36 (+1).
Ryan Macmillan followed suit by finishing the day 1 shot back in a tie for 20th with a 76. His consistent play allowed him to save shots around the greens and battle what some players found to be tricky pin placements. Isaiah Crystal also shot in the 70’s for the Rams and finished in a tie for 35th with a 79, while Ryan Sura rebounded after a tough first nine to shoot 81. Mitchel Borer also competed for the Rams and started strong, but a few tough holes late brought him in with an 84.
On the women’s side, Madison Lee led the the Rams again and improved her score from York by 8 strokes. Amanda Grant also played solid and found consistency on the back nine clinching a spot in the OUA Championships by shooting the number needed to qualify as an individual.
Next up for the Rams will be the McMaster Invitational where Amanda Grant, Heather Jennings, Mahir Omar and Mitchel Borer will all compete as individuals in the final tune-up before the OUA Championships, October 16th - 18th in Windsor.
