TORONTO - Ryerson's Department of Athletics is proud to announce that Kevin Souter has been named the Coordinator of the Ryerson Rams men's and women's soccer programs.

Coach Souter's new role will see him serving as the head coach of the women's soccer program and administrator of the men's program. Coach Souter will be involved in the day to day operations of both programs.

Souter served as the head coach of the women's team and associate head coach of the men's team last season, helping guide both squads to program-bests in wins as well as post-season appearances. He also served as a player-coach on the men's team in the fall of 2010, leading Ryerson to its longest playoff run in history and a first-ever OUA Final Four appearance.

"Through the interview process, Kevin clearly demonstrated his significant growth as a coach over the past year, both in his expertise of the game and in developing a strong knowledge of both the OUA and CIS," said Associate Athletic Director Stephanie White. "We are looking forward to watching him guide both the men's and women's programs to elite heights in the coming years."

Souter spent two seasons with the Kansas City Wizards of the MLS after graduating from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. The former all-American and NAIA national champion is thrilled to be part of the Ryerson Rams family.

"It has always been a pleasure to be surrounded by the staff at Ryerson University," said Souter. "There is tremendous wisdom and experience behind every office door. Each day is an opportunity for professional growth."

The Scotland native believes both the men's and women's programs are destined for success.

"The men's and women's programs are at different phases of their evolution however I believe that both teams will be recognized and competing at the national level over the next few years," he said. "A much greater aspiration is to develop and graduate wonderful student-athletes who will become ambassadors for Ryerson University and Ryerson Rams soccer."

Souter has been hard at work throughout the off-season, already adding a number of commitments on both the men's and women's side that will join the core of each squad when training camp begins later this summer.

"Recruiting is equally challenging and rewarding," he said. "I feel on both sides we have identified and confirmed high-potential athletes who can go on to do great things as a Ryerson Ram. The proof will be in the pudding come August."
