The Provincial Team program has traditionally been the final stage of the OVA's Athlete Development Model. The Provincial Team program affords the highest level of volleyball training and competition for young Ontarians and acts as a stepping-stone and development vehicle towards top-level College/University and National Team opportunities.
10 athletes born in 1993 were identified through an Open Selection Camp held May 11-13, 2012 at the University of Toronto.
Briscoe, Ryerson's first-ever women's volleyball CIS all-rookie, averaged 2.92 points per set which ranked her 20th in conference scoring this past year. She maintained a .243 kill percentage, which placed her seventh in the league amongst players with 300 or more total attacks.
Nicholishen finished the year with an average of 2.88 points per set, ranking her third in team scoring, while tallying 143 total kills. She was second on the Rams in kills per set (2.47) and digs (141).
The selected athletes will live in residence and train at the University of Toronto from July 3 - 16 before attending the National Team Challenge Cup (NTCC) in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
At the NTCC, athletes from all over Canada will participate in a two-day training camp headlined by national team coaches starting on July 17. The camp will include position specific training, team training, sport science presentations. The NTCC tournament will begin on July 19 and end on July 22 and will include teams representing other provinces from all over Canada.
