Roy Rana became the 11th head coach in Ryerson men's basketball history when he was hired on August 14, 2009.

In just his third season with Ryerson, Coach Rana led the Rams to their first CIS Final 8 appearance since 1998-99.  Rana guided the squad to a 13-9 record and second-place in the OUA East for the first time in over a decade.  After an improbable upset of then No. 2 nationally-ranked Lakehead in the OUA semifinals and a conference silver medal, Rana coached Ryerson to its first-ever win at a national championship in Halifax, where the  Rams went 1-2 including an 84-80 win over Concordia.

In 2010-11, Rana led Ryerson to the OUA quarter-finals after finishing the regular season in fourth place in the OUA East division. The Rams recorded their first playoff victory since 2003 with a win over the visiting York Lions in the opening round.

In the spring of 2010, Rana introduced his first recruiting class, which was regarded by many as arguably the best in the country. The group included first team OUA East all-star and East all-rookie team selection Jahmal Jones as well as East all-rookie team selection Jordon Gauthier.

During the 2009-10 season, his first at the helm of the Ryerson program, Rana led the Rams to their third straight playoff appearance.

Rana joined Ryerson after nine years at Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute in Toronto, where he led the Saints to four OFSAA provincial championships. He also has extensive experience coaching with Canada Basketball.

In June of 2012, Rana added his fourth bronze medal in as many international head coaching appearances by leading the Canadian Junior Men's National Team (JMNT) to third place at the FIBA Americas U18 Championships for Men.  With their placement, the JMNT also clinched a berth in the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship.

Rana then guided Team Canada to a silver medal at the 2012 Nike Global Challenge, which took place from July 13-15.

He also helped the World Select Team snap their two-year drought at the 2012 Nike Hoop Summit at the Rose Garden on April 9, guiding the global juniors to an 84-75 triumph against the USA Basketball Men's Junior National Select Team in front of over 10,000 spectators.  He was also the head coach of the World Selects at the 2011 Nike Hoop Summit

Rana was the Head Coach of the Cadets in 2009 and 2010. In the summer of 2009, the CMNT qualified for its first ever World Championship. In 2010, Rana coached the squad to an impressive bronze medal finish at World's. He also served as an assistant coach with the 2009 Senior Men's National Team which also qualified for the World Championship.

He then went on to once again lead the Canadian Cadets National Team at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship, where they captured a bronze medal and clinched a berth in the 2012 U17 World Championship.

In 2006, Rana was an assistant with the Junior Men's National Team, helping the age group qualify for its first ever Junior World Championship. Rana also led the Senior Men's "B" Team as the Head Coach, to the Super Four Cup in Santa Fe, Argentina. Rana has also served as the Head Coach for Canada's Junior National Team entry in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Nike Global Challenge. He has also coached Club teams to International Championships in Italy and Senegal.

In addition to his coaching success at the international level, Rana has experienced a historic career as one of Canada's most successful high school coaches. In his nine year tenure as the Head Coach and program director at Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute, the program has set numerous records. Eastern Commerce became the first team in history to win four consecutive Ontario Championships.

With Rana at the helm at Eastern, the team finished six of his nine seasons as the No. 1 ranked team in Canada. During that time period, Eastern's record was 256-39 with an incredible .867 winning percentage.

As the Head Coach of Ontario's U17 Provincial Team, Rana led the team to the 2004 and 2005 National Championship, as well as Ontario's first ever Canada Summer Games Gold Medal in 2005.

Rana has received many Coaching accolades including the 2003, 2004, 2006 Canadian High School Coach of the Year and the 2003 Toronto Sun High School Coach of the Year. He was also awarded the 2009 High School Coach of the Year in Canada Award.
