TORONTO – On banner raising night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, the Ryerson Rams women’s basketball team scratched out a 66-61 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs to extend their win streak to three games.

BOXSCORE

Sofia Paska (Etobicoke, Ont.) was up to her usual tricks on Saturday night posting a career-high 26 points while cleaning up the glass with 12 rebounds. Cara Tiemens (Newmarket, Ont.) added 13 points and eight rebounds in the victory.

The first quarter turned out to be the difference in this one as Ryerson outscored the Voyageurs 18-10 in the first ten minutes. From there out, the teams played an evenly matched game.

Laurentian stayed in the game with their eight successful three-pointers, half of which came from Meghan Forestell. The Voyageurs also continued to take good care of the basketball, committing just 11 turnovers to not give the Rams free opportunities.

Ryerson owned the glass, outrebounding Laurentian 49-28, but converting from the charity stripe was certainly a key factor in this one. The Rams converted on 22-of-25 free throw attempts while Laurentian could muster just nine made free throws.

At the end of the game the Rams celebrated their 2015-16 OUA championship title with a special ring presentation and banner raising ceremony.

“It’s a special night. Obviously we’re proud of the accomplishment last season and it’s really special to share it with our men’s team. Now it’s great inspiration to see the banners hanging on the wall and have those present in practice every day to remind us what we’re striving for,” said head coach Carly Clarke following the game.

The Rams improve their record to 3-1 on the season and will return to action on Friday, November 25 when they make the trek to Sault Ste. Marie to take on the Algoma Thunderbirds.
