WINDSOR, Ont. - For the first time in three years the Ryerson Rams women's basketball team will not be headed to the OUA Final Four championship, as the Rams fell 68-50 to the Windsor Lancers in quarter-final action on Saturday afternoon.

BOXSCORE

The Rams got down early and made things tough on themselves to get back in the game. Windsor opened the scoring on a 12-2 run, including 10 early points from Lancer forward Emily Prevost. The Rams outscored Windsor 7-4 for the rest of the quarter to cut into the deficit and trail 16-9 after ten minutes.

Ryerson battled back in the second quarter and got to within one point at 24-23 with 1:35 left in the half but a last second bucket from Prevost gave the Lancers a 28-25 edge heading into halftime.

The Rams had a strong start to the third quarter and they took their first lead on a tough turn-around shot from Sofia Paska with 4:04 remaining in the frame. A second straight hoop from Paska forced a Lancers timeout and it looked like the tide was turning in the Rams favour.

Out of that timeout, however, the Lancers went on a 7-0 run to reclaim the lead at 39-36. The teams traded baskets in the final minute, including a nice fade-away buzzer beating jumper from Rams forward Emma Fraser to make it 41-40 in favour of the Lancers heading to the fourth.

After a Kellie Ring jumper on the Rams first possession in the final frame, the Ryerson offence ran dry. Ryerson failed to score for the next 4:19 and by then the Lancers had grabbed hold of a double digit lead at 53-42.

The Rams were outrebounded 49-29 which turned out to be a deciding factor in this one. Ryerson also found themselves in foul trouble and finished with 25 fouls compared to just 12 for the Lancers.

Ryerson's frustration was evident in the fourth as their opportunity to advance to the Final Four slipped away. The Lancers piled up 27 points in the quarter as they dominated the frame en route to the 68-50 victory.

Windsor's Prevost finished the game with an impressive 23 points, 16 rebounds, four blocks, and four steals stat line to lead the Lancers. Ryerson's Paska finished with a double-double of her own with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The loss marks the ends of the careers for Rams guards C'airah Gabriel-Robinson, Nicole DiDomenico, Faatimah A, Kellie Ring, Devenae Bryce, and forward Tashana McDonald.
