TORONTO - Matt Buie of the Ryerson Rams rowing team will represent Canada at the 2010 World University Rowing Championships in Szeged, Hungary, August 13-15.

This will be the first international competition that Buie has competed in as a member of Team Canada. He will row in the men's pair with Eric Tremblay of the University of Victoria.

A relative newcomer to the sport, the Duntroon, Ontario product burst onto the rowing scene at the 2008 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship by capturing silver in the men's heavyweight singles. He would follow that up by winning gold in the under-23 singles at the prestigious Royal Henley Regatta in the summer of 2009.

This past season, Buie made history when he and Philippe Roy won the men's heavyweight double to earn Ryerson's first ever rowing gold medal at an OUA Championship. The pair was selected OUA all-stars and Buie was named Ryerson rowing men's MVP for the second straight year.
