GUADALAJARA, Mexico - Former Ryerson Ram and OUA most valuable player Joycelyn Ko has found the podium at the 2011 Pan American Games. The Scarborough, Ont. native earned a silver medal in the women's singles badminton event after losing to fellow Canadian Michelle Li (Markham, Ont.). She also took home bronze along with teammate Grace Gao (Calgary) in women's doubles.
Ko, who received the H.H. Kerr Trophy as Ryerson Female Athlete of the Year in 2006-07 and 2007-08, is the only Rams badminton athlete to earn Ontario University Athletics (OUA) most valuable player honours. The Gold ‘R' recipient is the also the only badminton player to have won OUA rookie of the year and MVP as well as both the Ryerson Rookie of the Year and Athlete of the Year awards.
Ko is also a former U23 Canadian singles and doubles champion.
