Rams dominate Gee-Gees, win 6th straight
OTTAWA- Aaron Best tallied a game-high 20 points and Jordon Gauthier recorded a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds, and the Ryerson Rams men's basketball team continues to roll, topping the Ottawa Gee-Gees 79-62 on Friday night and moving into second-place in the OUA East.
Best (Scarborough, Ont.) was 6-of-9 from the floor and picked up five assists, and Gauthier (Windsor, Ont.) added 18 points while Jahmal Jones (Mississauga) dropped 15 to help Ryerson win their sixth-straight and eight of their last nine matches.
The Rams exploded in the opening two quarters and held a 49-22 lead at halftime, and finished with a 47% shooting percentage while dropping 10 three-pointers.
The Rams (13-8) now share the same record as Ottawa, but hold the tie-breaker as they won the greater margin of victory in the season series. However, waiting in the wings are the CIS defending champion and current No. 1 team in the country Carleton (21-0), who after beating Toronto on Friday are one win away from a second-straight perfect season.
The Rams can clinch second in the division with a win over the Ravens, but would also stay above Ottawa if the Gee-Gees are defeated by the Varsity Blues tomorrow evening.
Ryerson will close out the regular season against Carleton on Saturday night at the Ravens' Nest. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
