ryersonrams.ca will be highlighting all six major awards nominees over the next week leading up to the event.

Today, we conclude with the nominees for the H.H. Kerr Female Athlete of the Year. This award is given to the most outstanding female student-athlete in a sport where recognition by other coaches as an all-star, MVP, OUA medalist or qualify for CIS finals or OUA finals are important criteria in the nomination. Exceptional skills as demonstrated by their sport specific statistics are essential to this recognition. Leadership, sportsmanship is secondary.

The following Ryerson Rams athletes were nominated by their coaches and chosen as finalists through the awards selection process.

Joanna Kolbe - Fencing

Second-year fencer Joanna Kolbe picked up her second-straight Dr. Al English Trophy at the 2012 OUA fencing championships in February. The Mississauga product successfully defended her individual epee title in St. Catharines, Ont. to capture consecutive gold medals. She also guided her squad to a team gold epee for the first time in Ryerson fencing program history. The Canadian national team member and computer science major continued her season of dominance at the 2012 Ontario Provincial Championships, where she claimed another gold medal in the individual epee.

Ashley MacDonald - Women's Basketball

Fifth-year guard Ashley MacDonald picked up her second-straight OUA first-team all-star nod after finishing second in league scoring with 18.2 points per game. This ranked the Port Colborne, Ont. native sixth in the country. MacDonald was first in the CIS in court-time, averaging just under 37minutes per game while appearing in all 22 conference matches and two playoff games for the women. The sociology major led the nation with 118 made free-throws and had 20 games with 10 or more points in leading the women to an 11-11 record and an OUA quarter-final appearance.

Andrea Raso - Women's Soccer

Women's soccer player Andrea Raso guided the Rams back to the post-season for the first time in three years in the fall, leading the team to a program record six victories and sixth-place in the OUA East division. The Etobicoke, Ont. native picked up her fifth-straight all-star nod in 2011 and her fourth as a first-team selection. Raso notched six goals on the year and was the focal point of a Rams offense that had its most productive season, recording 23 markers. The business management major also served as the team's captain.
