TORONTO- Ryerson's 64th Annual Athletic Awards Celebration is taking place next Friday, April 13 at the Toronto Marriott.

ryersonrams.ca will be highlighting all six major awards nominees over the next week leading up to the event.

Today, we are proud to announce the G.L. Dobson Outstanding Contribution to IU Sport, Campus and Community Life by a Female. This award is given to a student-athlete preferably in her graduating year, who has provided leadership and participation in a specific ongoing activity or in a collection of community and/or campus life activities. Also, this recipient usually has been involved in a leadership role on a team (captain), maintains a positive attitude both on and off the field of competition and personifies sportsmanship.

The following Ryerson Rams athletes were nominated by their coaches and chosen as finalists through the awards selection process.

Katie Holmes - Figure Skating

Rams figure skater and team captain Katie Holmes helped her squad to a fifth-place finish at the OUA championships in February. The Pickering, Ont. native has been a member of the Rising Rams program over the past two seasons, and was the driving force behind the Rams 2011 CIBC Run for the Cure campaign. Holmes serves as a volunteer for the Scarborough Figure Skating Club, and also gives her time to St. Michaels Hospital to help with its youth outreach program. The food and nutrition major assists in the running of children's sports programs with the Canadian Tire Jump Start initiative and also volunteers with Westney Heights Baptist Church and Mully Children's Family Charitable Foundation.

Angela Tilk - Women's Basketball

Fourth-year forward Angela Tilk served as the captain of the Ryerson Rams women's basketball team this past season. The Welland, Ont. native became one of the top post players in the conference this season, finishing with eight double-doubles and earning an OUA second-team all-star nod while leading the Rams to fifth-place in the OUA East division and an appearance in the conference quarter-finals. Tilk has been involved in the Rising Rams program over the last two years, and also served as an academic mentor over that time.

Carli Yim - Women's Volleyball

Senior Carli Yim captained the Rams women's volleyball team to six victories in 2011-12, leading the squad with 191 digs after making the transition from outside hitter to libero in her graduating year. Yim has been a member of the Rising Rams program over the past two years. She co-hosted two major events at Ryerson as a volunteer in 2011, including the mix-and-mingle at the CACUSS conference and the Dare to Explore Multicultural Show which was part of the Ted Rogers Management Conference. Yim was selected this past November to speak on behalf of her fellow students at the official naming ceremony of the Mattamy Athletic Centre at the Gardens, and has garnered an OVPS Community Leadership Award as well as being named Ryerson's 2011-12 Woman of Influence selection.
