Rough start for Rams in loss to Mustangs

By Sports Information

LONDON, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams women’s hockey team opened its second semester schedule with a 4-0 loss to the host Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon.

The Mustangs scored early and often as their top line of Lyndsay Kirkham, April Clark and Shana Alexander combined for six first period points as Western led 4-0 after 20 minutes.

The Rams would rebound in the second and third periods, out shooting the Mustangs 22-14 over the final 40 minutes but were unable to solve Western goaltender Katie Jacobs (St. Thomas, Ont.). Jacobs stopped all 26 Ryerson shots for her first shutout of the season.

Second-year Ryerson goaltender Sydney Authier (Wallaceburg, Ont.) started between the pipes but was replaced early in the first by rookie Rachel Seeley (Ottawa, Ont.). Seeley stopped 15 of 16 shots she faced in just over 45 minutes of action.

The Rams (4-1-5) will look to rebound Sunday when they visit the Windsor Lancers (5-1-7).
