Led by coach Vince Marra, the men's team begins its conference journey Thursday, Sep. 22 at the St. Thomas Golf Club, where they will compete in the Western Invitational.
Marra, who spent the last couple of years working in the Athletics and Recreation Department at Ryerson, created the Ryerson University Golf Club in 2008 and has run the program over the last three seasons. He was also recognized at Ryerson's 63rd Annual Athletic Awards Celebration in April of 2011, taking home the Male Excellence in Leadership Award for his outstanding contributions to the department.
Marra began the 2011-12 season by holding Q-School on September 12 at the Richmond Hill Golf Club, who will be partnering with the Rams to provide them with proper training grounds throughout the year.
On the men's side, Matt Madden (Iroquois Falls, Ont.) took home medalist honours, holding off assistant captain Kody McWilliams (Unionville, Ont.) by posting a 72. Captain Kyle Weston (Stayner, Ont.) shot 81 to tie with Russel Co (Richmond Hill, Ont.) for third place.
Women's captain Allison King captured medalist honours by shooting an 85, while Sarah Garbe and Anne Kuo came in second and third respectively.
With the men's team already in full swing, the women's side still hopes to fill out their roster. Interested students should e-mail golf@ryerson.ca to join.
