ORLANDO - Fall reading week was a special treat for the Ryerson Rams Dragon Boat Club as they headed down to sunny Florida to compete in the GWN Walgreens Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival on Oct. 15.

It was the first regatta across the border for the Ryerson paddlers at this particular competition, and the first time they were competing internationally. The regatta consisted of three 500m races, each qualifying for a division final.

Due to last minute circumstances, the Rams had to run a boat of only 18 paddlers as opposed to a normal, full boat of 20. Even so, the Rams started off steady, finishing their qualifier round with a time of 2:26.44. They qualified for the first round of the premier mixed C semi-final where they finished in first place with a time of 2:21.12, only beating the team in second place by 0.01 seconds.

The Rams went on to the premier mixed C division grand final and took the silver medal with a time of 2:21.59.
