TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams Dragon Boat Club recently kicked off its new season. But even before the start of the season in October, the club participated in the 2016 season’s final regatta at Christie Lake on Sept. 24.

The Rams competed with three full boats in three 200m races, one 2km race, a back-it-down race where boats race backwards, a surprise relay race, and a capture the flag race.

The Christie Lake regatta is well-known for being fun and relaxed. RDB ran three full boats during their regular 2016 season, but at this regatta, the members and the coaches of the club were all mixed up for each race to have a little fun and make the competition more enjoyable.

The club brought over 50 returning members from the previous season to compete at the regatta. Many alumni members of RDB and new paddlers also joined the team at the competition. It was the first time racing at a regatta for many of the new paddlers, but they all worked their hardest and got a chance to test the ropes in the sport of dragon boat.

A video of the regatta can be found here along with an interview conducted by team member,  Madonna Dennis of the Ryersonian.
